OASIS: "The Project Network"

Introduction

OASIS is a libre, open-source, encrypted, peer-to-peer, distributed (not decentralized!) & federated project networking application that helps you follow interesting content and discover new ones.

OASIS redefines what it means to be connected in the modern world, giving people the ability to control their online presence and interactions without the need for centralized institutions. It is the social layer of the SolarNET.HuB ecosystem and the network where its inhabitants meet, organize and build.

Main features

  • Data manipulation is not permitted: every message lives in an append-only, cryptographically signed log (a blockchain-like structure).
  • No browser JavaScript. Pure HTML + CSS: a really secure frontend.
  • Use your favourite web browser to read and write to the people you care about.
  • Strong cryptography at every single point of the network.
  • You are the center of your own distributed network: online or offline, it works anywhere you are.
  • Initial identities are randomly generated — no username or password required.
  • No personal profile (no questions about gender, age, location…), no email, no phone number.
  • Automatic EXIF stripping (GPS coordinates, etc.) on images for better privacy.
  • Multiple languages and multiple themes (including a mobile theme).
  • Truly modular: enable only the modules you need and set your own environment.
  • Automatic updates with new functionalities.

Modules

OASIS is TRULY MODULAR. This is what comes deployed with the “core”; both the codebase and the inhabitants can generate new modules.

  • Agenda: Module to manage all your assigned items.
  • AI: Module to talk with a LLM called '42'.
  • AINav: Module for natural-language queries about the network's content.

Systems

C-AI (collective artificial intelligence)

OASIS contains its own AI model called “42”. The idea is to enable distributed learning generated through the collective action of many individuals, redistributing the processing load, the ecological footprint and the corporate bias. It is trained with content from the OASIS network and its purpose is to take action and obtain answers to individual, but also global, problems.

Parliament & Courts

OASIS contains its own Parliament (Government system), where the inhabitants elect governments and vote on laws, and its own Courts (Justice system) to resolve conflicts and emit verdicts.

ECOin, Banking & UBI

OASIS contains its own cryptocurrency, ECOin, to exchange items and services in the marketplace. It also distributes a Universal Basic Income weekly, calculated by the AI through positive and efficient participation and trust.

Industry

OASIS lets its inhabitants collectively own and manage the means of production, organized as network-owned facilities governed by their own members.

Carbon footprinting

OASIS contains its own carbon footprint meter: all transmissions, stored files and interactions are measured to understand the environmental impact of the network — and of each inhabitant.

L.A.R.P.

OASIS contains a L.A.R.P. (live-action role-playing) structured around 1+8 main houses. The objective is to empower the inhabitants to organize around specific proposals and generate federated governments with specific characteristics.

Multiverse

OASIS bridges to other networks. Connect your Mastodon and Telegram accounts and use them from inside OASIS — read, publish, reply and chat — without storing any third-party content in your log: everything is fetched live and shown ephemerally, and only your credentials are kept locally.

A TRUSTNET: invite codes

OASIS is a trustnet: you need an invitation code to enter the PUBs (managed by inhabitants or hacklabs), and TRIBES (groups) require an entry code too. You can connect to any node you want, but to see everything and meet the community you'll need to know someone, or take part in a collective action that distributes invitation codes.
